Oregon has a couple games to fix various mistakes before things get real.
The Ducks escaped their latest outing with a win, but the performance left plenty to clean up. Missed assignments, untimely penalties, and inconsistent execution on offense gave coaches plenty of material for the film room this week. None of it cost them the game, yet everyone around the program knows that sloppy play will not survive once the schedule stiffens.
Head coach Dan Lanning has been blunt about the standard. Winning is not enough if the details keep slipping. Blocking schemes broke down in short yardage situations, and the defense gave up explosive plays that should have been contained. Special teams also had shaky moments, including a coverage lapse that handed the opponent good field position.
The good news is that time remains. Two games stand between Oregon and the toughest stretch of the season, giving the staff a chance to simplify assignments, tighten technique, and build depth at positions still searching for answers.
Players say the message is clear. Clean up the small things now, or those same mistakes will decide a game later. The talent is there. The discipline is the question.
