The Philadelphia Eagles should approach the 2026 NFL trade deadline as sellers rather than buyers. That may sound strange for a team that has consistently pushed for championships, but the logic is straightforward. If the Eagles are not in genuine contention by late October or early November, holding onto veteran assets would only hurt the franchise's long-term outlook.
General manager Howie Roseman has never been afraid to wheel and deal, and he could still explore smaller moves on the margins. A conditional seventh-round pick for a depth piece at a position of need, such as safety, might make sense if the price is right. But those are minor tweaks, not the kind of splashy additions that define a contender.
The more important question is which players Philadelphia might move. Veterans on expiring contracts or those who no longer fit the timeline could fetch draft capital. Roseman has built a reputation for stockpiling picks and maximizing value, and a deadline where the Eagles are out of the race would be the perfect opportunity to restock the cupboard.
Selling does not mean giving up on the season. It means being honest about where the roster stands and making decisions that benefit the organization beyond the current year. If the Eagles are winning, they should stand pat or add cheap depth. If they are struggling, they should be active sellers. Either way, the 2026 deadline should be about smart asset management, not desperation.
