The Philadelphia Phillies held on for a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night, but the final score does not capture the tension that boiled over in the late innings. Zack Wheeler delivered another dominant start, striking out nine over seven shutout innings, but the story shifted in the eighth when the benches cleared after a pair of heated exchanges.

With the Phillies leading 3-0, Reds reliever Ian Gibaut threw a pitch behind Bryce Harper. Harper took exception, shouting toward the mound, and both dugouts emptied. No punches were thrown, but umpires issued warnings to both teams. The tension escalated moments later when Nick Castellanos was hit by a pitch, prompting another round of jawing between the benches.

The Phillies added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a Kyle Schwarber sacrifice fly, but the Reds finally got on the board in the bottom half against reliever Seranthony Dominguez.
