Texas A&M has brought in some highly touted quarterback prospects over the years, and according to 247Sports composite rankings, a few names stand out above the rest. Here is a look at the top 10 highest-rated quarterback recruits to ever sign with the Aggies.
At the top of the list is Kyle Allen, the five-star prospect from the class of 2014. He was ranked as the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the nation and the No. 10 overall player. Allen started as a freshman but eventually transferred to Houston and later played in the NFL.
Number two is Kyler Murray, also from the 2015 class. The dual-threat star was the No. 2 overall player in the country and the top-ranked athlete. He spent two seasons at A&M before transferring to Oklahoma, where he won the Heisman Trophy.
Third on the list is Kenny Hill, a four-star from the 2014 class who started the 2014 season strong before losing the job. He later transferred to TCU.
Rounding out the top five are Johnny Manziel (2011) and Stephen McGee (2005). Manziel, a four-star recruit, became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy. McGee was a four-star dual-threat who started for three seasons.
Other notable names in the top ten include Kevin Murray (1983), Ryan Tannehill (2007), and recent signee Conner Weigman (2022). The list also features Jerrod Johnson (2006) and Matt Joeckel (2010).
While star ratings don't always guarantee success, this group shows that Texas A&M has consistently attracted elite quarterback talent. Some lived up to the hype, others transferred, but all were among the best in the country when they committed.
