Alissa Graff is a sports fan who found out first hand that, despite the growing popularity of women's athletics, finding a public venue to consistently watch the games was a frustrating challenge. Tired of having to ask bartenders to change the channel, she decided to create a permanent solution. This summer, Graff is opening The Sports Bra, a bar entirely dedicated to broadcasting women's sports.
Located in Portland, Oregon, the establishment aims to be a vibrant community hub where fans can gather without the usual hassle. The concept was born from Graff's own experiences and a clear recognition of a market gap. She noticed that while interest in leagues like the WNBA and the NWSL has skyrocketed, viewing options in traditional sports bars have not kept pace.
The bar will feature memorabilia from female athletes and will showcase a wide array of sports, from basketball and soccer to lesser-televised competitions. Graff's mission extends beyond simply showing games; she wants to build a celebratory space that directly supports the visibility and growth of women's sports. "It's about creating a place where you know that when you walk in, the game you want to see will already be on," she explained. The initiative has been met with enthusiastic support from athletes and fans alike, signaling a strong demand for spaces that prioritize the exciting world of women's athletics.
