Saints waive UDFA CB Jeremiah McClendon

The New Orleans Saints have waived undrafted free agent cornerback Jeremiah McClendon, ending his brief tenure with the team. McClendon, who signed with the Saints shortly after the 2024 NFL Draft, was released as the team continues to trim its roster ahead of training camp.

McClendon played his college football at Southern Illinois, where he emerged as a versatile defensive back. During his time with the Salukis, he recorded 35 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass breakups over 28 games. Despite his production at the FCS level, the transition to the NFL proved challenging, and the Saints opted to move on after just a few weeks of offseason workouts.

The waiver of McClendon is part of the normal roster churn that occurs across the league during the summer months. Teams often bring in large groups of undrafted free agents to compete for depth roles, and many are released before the start of training camp. For McClendon, the door is not entirely closed. He could potentially catch on with another team as a camp body or land a spot on a practice squad later in the year.

New Orleans still has a crowded cornerback room, with Marshon Lattimore, Paulson Adebo, and Alontae Taylor expected to lead the group. The Saints will continue to evaluate their defensive back depth as they prepare for the upcoming season.
