Mercer-VMI Preview

October 1, 2026 - 12:29

Mercer travels to Lexington, Virginia this Saturday to face VMI in a Southern Conference matchup at Foster Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Field.

The Bears enter the game with a 3-2 overall record and an 0-1 mark in conference play. They are looking to bounce back after a tough start to their SOCON schedule. Mercer has shown promise through its first five games, but the conference opener did not go its way. A road trip to face a struggling opponent offers a chance to get back on track.

VMI sits at 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the Southern Conference. The Keydets have yet to find a win this season and are searching for any spark to turn things around. Playing at home could give them a boost, though they face a Mercer team hungry for a conference victory.

Both programs are chasing their first SOCON win of the year. For Mercer, a victory would even its conference record and build momentum for the weeks ahead. For VMI, a win would snap a difficult losing streak and give the team something positive to build on.

The game figures to be a hard fought contest between two teams eager to change their fortunes in conference play.
