Major Trade Shakes Up NHL as Star Defenseman Moves to New Team
April 19, 2025 - 23:12
During the 2024 NHL off-season, the Tampa Bay Lightning made a significant shift to their defensive lineup. The Atlantic Division team traded star defenseman Mikhail Sergachev to the Utah Hockey Club. In return, Tampa Bay acquired promising blueliner J.J. Moser, along with forward Conor Geekie. Additionally, the Lightning received a seventh-round pick in the 2024 draft and a second-round pick in 2025.
This move marks a pivotal moment for both franchises. For the Lightning, parting ways with Sergachev, a key player in their recent successes, signals a new direction and a focus on rebuilding their defensive core. Meanwhile, the addition of Moser and Geekie provides Utah with a chance to enhance their roster and make a stronger push in the upcoming season.
Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this trade will impact both teams, especially as they prepare for the challenges of the new NHL season.
