'I was blessed to be her mom:' Cheyenne woman starts youth sports league in honor of daughter

A Cheyenne woman has created a new youth sports organization as a way to remember her daughter and provide local children with opportunities to play.

The league was founded in honor of the woman's daughter, who died by suicide. The mother said she felt compelled to turn her grief into something that could help young people in the community stay active and connected.

She described her daughter as someone who loved being part of a team and benefited from the structure and friendships that sports provided. The new league aims to give other children that same experience, regardless of their skill level or family income.

Organizers say the program will focus on inclusion, positive coaching and building confidence. Parents and volunteers have already shown interest in helping with registration, equipment and field preparation.

The mother said the project has given her a sense of purpose during a difficult time. She hopes the league will grow and become a lasting tribute to her daughter.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger of harming themselves, please call 911. If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, help is available.
