As the Class of 2026 prepares to turn the page, one name stands out on the high school tennis courts: Sarah Siolkowski. The East Catholic star leaves behind a legacy of dominance, sportsmanship, and quiet leadership. But as she packs her bags for college, she is more focused on what comes next for the players she leaves behind.
Siolkowski, who has been a fixture at the top of the state's singles rankings for the past three seasons, says the key to success is not just raw talent. "It is about how you handle the bad days," she explained. "Everyone can play well when the sun is shining and the crowd is cheering. The real test is when you are down a set, the wind is blowing, and you have to find a way to win ugly."
Her advice for the Next Gen of high school tennis players is simple but often overlooked: embrace the grind. "Do not skip the small stuff," she said. "Stretch, hydrate, get your sleep. And do not be afraid to lose. Every loss teaches you something that a win never will."
Beyond the technical tips, Siolkowski emphasized the importance of being a good teammate. "Tennis is an individual sport, but in high school, you are part of something bigger. Cheer for your teammates. Stay for the last match. That is what people remember."
As she heads to college, Siolkowski hopes her legacy is not just about trophies. "I want to be remembered as someone who made the team better, not just someone who won matches." For the next generation, that might be the most valuable lesson of all.
