Green Wave Aim to Start Conference Play Strong Against Army

October 9, 2026 - 21:07

The Green Wave will look to get off on the right foot in American Conference play.

Tulane enters this matchup with plenty of momentum and a clear sense of what it needs to do to come out on top. Army brings its trademark discipline and ball control, which means the Green Wave must stay patient and avoid costly mistakes. Possession will matter. Field position will matter. Every drive counts against a team that prefers to grind down the clock.

For Tulane, success starts with winning the line of scrimmage. The offense needs to establish the run early to open up play action later. Protecting the football is just as important. Turnovers against a service academy can quickly turn into points and long stretches without the ball.

Defensively, the Green Wave must stay disciplined with assignments. Army's offense forces defenders to read keys and hold their ground rather than chase plays. Missed tackles and overpursuit lead to big gains. Communication and gap integrity will decide how this game unfolds.

Special teams often swing these kinds of matchups. A solid return game or a well placed punt can flip the field and put pressure on the opponent. Tulane has the talent to compete. The question is execution. If the Green Wave play clean, control the clock, and finish drives, they give themselves a strong chance to open conference play with a win.
