Giants Get Encouraging Update on Adames’ Back Injury

The San Francisco Giants received a welcome update on shortstop Willy Adames, as the team confirmed he will not require a trip to the injured list. Adames, who exited Sunday's game with lower back tightness, is now listed as day-to-day. The veteran infielder will be re-evaluated before the Giants open their series against the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

Manager Bob Melvin told reporters that Adames responded well to treatment and showed improvement overnight. The team initially feared a more serious issue when Adames was pulled in the middle of the game, but imaging tests came back clean. That news brings a sense of relief to a club that has leaned heavily on Adames since his offseason arrival. He has been a steady presence in the lineup, both with his glove and his bat, and losing him for an extended stretch would have been a significant blow.

The Giants are being cautious with their star shortstop, but the fact that he is avoiding the IL suggests the injury is not severe. San Francisco will likely give him a day or two of rest if needed, with the hope that he can return to action later in the series. For now, the team is simply happy to have dodged a potentially long-term problem. The Rockies series provides a softer landing spot, and the Giants will take no chances with Adames' health as they push through the final stretch of the season.
