Denver Broncos have waived outside linebacker Dasa McCullough

Denver Broncos have waived outside linebacker Dasa McCullough

The Denver Broncos have decided to release outside linebacker Dasan McCullough, a move that was first reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. McCullough, who signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana, did not make the final cut as the roster gets trimmed ahead of the regular season.

McCullough, the son of former NFL running back and current coach Deland McCullough, showed flashes of promise during training camp and the preseason. He appeared in two preseason games for Denver, recording a tackle and showing some ability to rush the passer. However, the competition at the edge rusher position was steep, with the Broncos carrying several established veterans and younger players with more upside.

The waiver move means McCullough will now be subject to claims from other NFL teams. If he clears waivers, he could land on Denver's practice squad, provided he is not scooped up by another franchise looking to add depth on defense. At 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, McCullough has the physical tools to develop, but he will need more time to refine his technique and adjust to the speed of the pro game.

For the Broncos, this is part of the usual roster churn that happens every year at this point in the offseason. The team is focused on building a competitive squad for the upcoming season, and tough decisions have to be made. McCullough's release opens up a spot for another player who may have shown more in the final preseason outing. Denver will now look ahead to their season opener, hoping the pieces they have kept in place will be enough to make a push in a tough AFC West division.
