Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Carlos Jorge continues to make a strong impression in the Southern League, launching his sixth home run of the season for the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts. The 21-year-old second baseman has been on a tear at the plate, raising his batting average to .341 and his OPS to .935 through the early part of the season.
Jorge, who signed with the Reds as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2019, has shown a blend of power and speed that makes him one of the more intriguing young players in the organization. His latest homer came in a recent matchup against the Rocket City Trash Pandas, a line-drive shot to right field that showcased his quick hands and improving plate discipline.
Scouts have noted that Jorge's approach has matured significantly this year. He is chasing fewer pitches outside the zone and making more consistent hard contact. While he still strikes out at a rate that needs monitoring, his ability to get on base and drive the ball to all fields has turned heads in the Reds' front office.
With the Reds currently navigating a competitive National League Central race, Jorge's continued development provides valuable organizational depth. If he maintains this level of production, a promotion to Triple-A Louisville could come before the All-Star break. For now, he remains a key piece of a Lookouts lineup that has been one of the more productive in the league.
