Can Sean Miller Turn Texas Into an SEC Title Contender?

October 9, 2026 - 04:07

After suffering a heartbreaking loss to Purdue in the Sweet 16, Sean Miller's challenge at Texas this year will be turning a talented roster into one ready to contend for an SEC championship. The Longhorns' frontcourt size and scoring options give Texas fans reason to be excited. Texas' success will ultimately depend on how these pieces fit together on both ends of the floor.

Miller inherits a program with high expectations and a roster that features length, athleticism, and multiple players who can create their own shot. The frontcourt in particular stands out, with size that can match up against the physical style of play in the SEC. That interior presence should help Texas control the paint and clean up the glass, two areas that often decide close conference games.

The backcourt will need to provide steady leadership and perimeter shooting to complement the big men. Defensive intensity and rebounding will be critical, especially in a league loaded with experienced teams. Miller has a reputation for demanding accountability and building tough-minded squads, traits that will be tested right away.

If the roster buys into his system and develops chemistry early, Texas could surprise people. The path to an SEC title is never easy, but the tools are there. The question is whether Miller can turn potential into production before the conference grind begins.
