Dublin senior football manager Ger Brennan has made a direct appeal to the GAA to bring in video technology to help referees with crucial calls. The call comes in the wake of his team's narrow All-Ireland SFC semi-final defeat to Kerry, a game that featured several contentious decisions.
Speaking after the match, Brennan argued that the current system places too much pressure on match officials, who are expected to get every call right in real time. He pointed to specific moments in the semi-final where a quick video review could have changed the outcome. "We are playing at the highest level, and the stakes are enormous," Brennan said. "It is only fair to the players, the coaches, and the referees themselves that we give them every possible tool to get the big calls correct."
The Dublin boss acknowledged that introducing technology would require investment and a change in the flow of the game, but he insisted it is a necessary step for the integrity of the championship. He stopped short of calling for a full review system like those used in professional sports, but suggested a limited use of video for goals, black cards, and potential match-turning incidents.
The GAA has previously resisted widespread use of technology, citing the amateur nature of the sport and the desire to keep games moving. However, with the All-Ireland series growing in profile and pressure, Brennan's comments are likely to spark fresh debate on the issue ahead of next season.
