Miami's defensive line is stacked with talent, but one name flying under the radar is interior lineman Justin Scott. While the Hurricanes boast flashy edge rushers and veteran tackles, Scott has quietly developed into a disruptive force who could climb draft boards by 2027.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and pushing 315 pounds, Scott combines rare size with quick first-step explosion. He was a five-star recruit out of high school, and his transition to college ball has been steady. This summer, he has shown improved hand usage and a better understanding of gap discipline. Where he once relied purely on power, Scott now flashes a swim move and a rip technique that collapses pockets from the inside.
His biggest asset is his ability to command double teams. That frees up Miami's linebackers to flow freely to the ball. In run defense, he holds his ground at the point of attack and rarely gets washed out of his gap. Scouts have noted his motor runs hot, chasing plays sideline to sideline more than most interior linemen his size.
The area for growth remains pass-rush consistency. He can dominate for a quarter, then vanish for stretches. If he develops a counter move and learns to vary his rush plan, Scott has the tools to become a first-round pick. For now, he is a high-upside prospect who could anchor a 4-3 or 3-4 front at the next level. Miami's defense will lean on him heavily this season, and if he delivers, the NFL will come calling.
